Some groups may desire to check out a Mass church or a local Memphis church or find nice coffee shop for some breakfast.

Depending on your preference - we’ll send you to the National Civil Rights Museum anywhere from 9am to 2pm. We like to block off 3 hours for this self-guided tour. Tickets are included in your Serve901 Fee! The museum is nearby to many things to check out before or after the museum including Big River Crossing, South Main, Beale Street, and Tom Lee Park.

6-8PM-ish - BLUFF CITY BEGINNINGS

We'll gather for dinner and orientation together in the evening.

The orientation will give you background to the city of Memphis and your week with Serve901.

9AM-5PM-ish Volunteering with Serve901 partner organizations

You may serve at a local homeless shelter as men and women come to shower and get a fresh set of clothes. You may mulch a school garden. We'll likely work you hard Monday!

Of course, our desire is that you take time to evaluate your context. Learn the story of the organization you're partnering with as well as the leaders who lead the project.

What kinds of things do you want your trip to center around — Housing Insecurity, Food Insecurity, Youth & Community Development, Refugee Resettlement? Let us cater your trip to your group’s interests!

EVENINGS on your own - group reflections, team building, life mapping, etc are all valuable ways we’ve seen teams spend their non-serving hours :)

9AM-5PMish

We may move you to a local school on Tuesday. Our organization champions teachers and equitable education. We want to rally alongside educators. You may be asked to paint. You may be asked to read with students. You may be asked to organize a library. Realize that no task is too small. Too many stories are involved to take any task for granted. Students who aren't reading on grade level by third grade are more likely to end up in prison—statistics like these are powerful forces in areas of poverty. Knowledge is power.

Keep bonding as a team and reflecting on your time in Memphis.

9AM-3PMish

You might spend this day with a community development organization to clean blighted neighborhood properties. There are many "CDC's" in Memphis working to improve the quality of life on a neighborhood level. They do this through affordable housing, job training programs, asset mapping, and years of relational work.

You may spend the morning working on developing some available acreage with a local after school program and the afternoon with the students they serve.

4-6PM CHOOSE901 Y’ALL

We have our last gathering of the groups at the Crosstown Concourse for dinner and exposure to gap year and residency opportunities.
